In this project, our team conducted primary and secondary research on tailgaters. We want to identify their problems and seek to provide a service that encourages new tailgaters to get into the scene. We also seek to provide a better tailgating experience for both new and old tailgaters by establishing connections between them.

Our Problem

Tailgating is a seemingly inevitable experience for American college students.

However, tailgating is not an accessible activity at all. It requires prior knowledge, a lot of money, and most critically, a group of people who already tailgate.

We researched the problems tailgaters face and seek to provide a service that encourages new tailgaters to get into the scene. We also seek to provide a better tailgating experience for everyone, new and old.

User Research

Ideating

We came up with many possible features for an app and even for a physical service. We ultimately chose the most relevant features for our app.

User Journey

Victoria M.

Victoria is a sophomore at U of I. She went to the homecoming tailgates her freshman year and really wants to host some tailgates with her friends and invite her hometown friends as well.

She is looking for a one-day parking spot, a grill, propane tank, and tables to set up her tailgate.

Victoria can use the rental/selling page and can filter out what she is looking for. She can buy a parking spot off of someone for the day, as well as rent a grill and propane tank.

User Journey

Cody B.

Cody is an alumni of U of I. He used to tailgate during his college days and wants to get back into it.

Cody wants to connect to former alumni and create or join a tailgating group.

Cody can create a profile and start searching for a group.
He can filter through groups and find alumni. He can read groups' descriptions and find people he likes.

User Journey

Kyle A.

Kyle is hosting a tailgate with his family and friends. He doesn't know much about tailgating but wants to start getting into it to spend time with family and friends.

He is looking for some guidance on how to get a parking spot and generally what to bring.

Kyle can post to the forum for advice. He can also have people reachout/reach out to people through private chat. Once he decides what to bring and rents aparking spot, he can find his parking spot with a location map and share with other group members.
